Meditation

I know! I know! You have heard this umpteen times. Also, you feel like you don’t have time to set aside for meditation. Meditative moments don’t have to take tons of extra time. If you can have a few minutes for the coffee you can have for meditation too.

When you feel overwhelmed stop what you are doing and set a timer for two minutes.
Listen to nature sounds you can find on YouTube or an app like Insight Timer.
You can opt for mantras or visualizations, which can be found in the same places.
Or you can simply sit there in silence and notice your breath go in and out.

Just two minutes. We all have two minutes.

Set Goals and Priorities

When you have goals, you are less prone to clutter of the mind and existing clutter is easier to eliminate.

1. Write down all your goals.
2. Now separate them into long term goals, mid-term goals and short-term goals.
3. Find out a way to incorporate your goals into your daily life.

Let’s assume one of your goals is to write a book. You can incorporate this into your daily to-do list. Perhaps you commit to writing 1000 words each day with your morning coffee.

Make sure to set realistic goals. If you have a weight loss goal and can only lose 2 pounds in a month, don’t set a goal to lose 8 pounds in a month. This will only add more clutter to your mind.

Are You Ready to Have Everything You Ever Wanted?

Declutter your limiting beliefs and manifest your destiny with a vision board. This is the easiest arts and crafts project you’ve ever done and there’s no wrong way to do it. Basically, find images and words that represent what you want in your future and attach them to a board to be displayed where you’ll see it daily. Want wealth? Find a dollar sign or pin some real cash to your board. Want to travel? What represents travel to you? Happiness? Family? Success? Adventure? Only you know what represents these things for you.

Stop Relying on Logic to Fix Everything

This is the best mental decluttering tip I can give. It’s counter-intuitive, but it’s good. We complicate the crap out of our lives with all of the thinking and comparing and worrying. Don’t think. Don’t plan. Don’t question yourself. You have the answer. Quiet down all of the hurt, shoulds, have-to’s, guilt, shame, fear, judgments, perceptions and opinions. Listen to the quiet voice that lives inside you for your truth. This can be the hardest mind decluttering skill to get ahold of, but it’s worth the struggle. Trust yourself.

Count How Many Judgements You Make in a Day

Still have your counter from your ‘Should Awareness Day’? Great, we’re going to use it again. Click every time you think or speak a judgement. Positive or negative. Yup. “That couch is pretty” is a judgement just as much as “that couch is ugly”. Noticing how often you have a judgement or opinion of yourself and the world around you will help you be more mindful of how you choose to be.
